One Acre Fund, which works with millions of smallholder farmers across Africa, is recruiting a Global MEL Senior Associate to give technical support and quality assurance to the monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) teams in two or three of its country programmes. It suits evaluation specialists and applied researchers with strong Stata skills and a background in agriculture. The post is based in one of One Acre Fund’s countries of operation, which include Uganda.

  • Reports to: a Senior Manager on the Global MEL Team
  • Type: fixed term, two years; start as soon as possible
  • Reference: 02472
  • Deadline: Wednesday 4 November 2026, 11:59 PM (EAT). One Acre Fund gives the date without a time and reviews applications as they arrive, so apply early.

About the role

The Senior Associate is the main technical resource for the MEL Leads in a small group of growth-portfolio countries. Most of the work is reviewing and strengthening their surveys, data quality checks, analysis and reports, and turning results into findings that programme teams can act on. The rest goes into global MEL work: trainings, shared tools and standards, and, depending on the candidate, measurement support for the agroforestry programme.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as technical reviewer for country MEL Leads in two or three countries
  • Review survey instruments, including CommCare programming, and data quality and back-check processes
  • Review Stata analysis and MEL deliverables, and help turn findings into decisions
  • Advise on evaluation design, including quasi-experimental methods and randomised trials, and flag risks early
  • Contribute to global MEL standards, shared analytical tools, templates and guidance
  • Help design and deliver MEL trainings
  • Peer-review cross-country work and share lessons between countries

Qualifications and experience

  • A master’s degree in economics, applied statistics, agricultural economics or a closely related field
  • At least three years in MEL or applied research, preferably in international development and in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Advanced Stata (R is a strong plus) and hands-on experience with propensity score matching, difference-in-differences or randomised trials
  • Experience designing mobile surveys (CommCare preferred) and improving data quality assurance
  • A background in agriculture is required; agroforestry or tree-planting experience is strongly preferred
  • Professional English; French is a significant asset, especially for supporting DRC
