Clean data, clear answers
The problem we solve
Data management and analysis is where a study, a programme or a public service turns raw records into answers people can use. It is also where a lot of good work is lost. Survey files arrive with duplicate IDs and unlabelled variables. Monitoring data sits in spreadsheets that nobody trusts. Analysis waits months for a dataset that is “nearly clean”, and by the time the report is ready, the decision it was meant to inform has already been made.
We have managed and analysed the data from every study we have run since 2016. We now offer this work as a service of its own, for data we collect through our Research service line and for data you or another team collected. We build data-entry tools and databases, clean and document datasets, and analyse quantitative and qualitative data with Python, R, SPSS, Epi Info and EpiData, using GIS for maps. You receive a clean, documented dataset and analysis that answers the questions you asked.
What we do
Data management
- Digital data-entry forms and databases (ODK, KoboToolbox, SurveyCTO)
- Data cleaning, coding and de-duplication
- Codebooks, data dictionaries and documentation
- Anonymisation, secure storage and data sharing
Data analysis
- Descriptive and inferential statistics
- Analysis of baseline, midline and endline data
- Qualitative coding and thematic analysis
- Maps and spatial analysis with GIS
Reporting & data use
- Tables, charts and analysis reports
- Dashboards for monitoring data
- Data-quality reviews of existing datasets
- Training staff to manage and analyse their own data
What we do for each client
| Client | Typical services |
|---|---|
| Universities & researchers | Cleaning and documenting field data, analysis plans, statistical analysis, datasets ready for replication |
| NGOs & development partners | M&E databases, indicator tracking, analysis of baseline and endline data, dashboards |
| Government | Cleaning and analysis of administrative data, data-quality reviews, staff training |
| Businesses | Analysis of customer and market surveys, reports on sales and operations data |
Quality and data protection
Every dataset we deliver comes with a codebook and a log of every change made during cleaning, so the results can be checked and repeated. Personal data is anonymised before analysis, stored encrypted and shared only with the people who need it, in line with Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019, overseen by the Personal Data Protection Office. For data-quality checks while fieldwork is still running, see FieldPulse.
How data management and analysis works with us
- Listen. Agree the questions the data must answer, the deadline and the budget.
- Review. Assess the data you have, or design the tools to collect it.
- Clean. Clean, code and document the dataset, logging every change.
- Analyse. Run the agreed analysis and check the results.
- Report. Deliver tables, charts and a report, with the clean data and its documentation.
